Pregnancy, Lactation, and Recovery

Some Background

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 provides for equal educational and employment opportunities for pregnant and parenting students, staff, and faculty. 

It prohibits educational institutions from discriminating against pregnant students and employees based upon their marital status and prohibits discrimination because of childbirth, false pregnancy or recovery from related conditions. 

Students, faculty, and full-time and part-time employees are covered by Title IX’s protection regulations.

Requesting Support

Title IX provides individualized support to students, staff, and faculty to ensure full access and participation in education, employment, and university services and programs.  

The Title IX Office is also available for supervisors and faculty who may have questions related to pregnancy and parenting accommodations.

Title IX also has the authority to respond to reports of discrimination related to pregnancy and parenting.
